Blog Post 3: Myths and Fables

If I were ever to write myself into a myth or fable, my character would resemble the likes of Athena and Sivitri. Sivitri, a woman forced to use her wit and willpower to save her husband in an arduous situation. When presented with a challenge, I can almost always be considered the tension-reliever. I love to have meaningful, thought provoking conversation, however, when these conversations happen, they usually coincide with a heavier atmosphere. I prefer the atmosphere stay light, and sarcasm is my self-defense. However, I do find myself pursuing every challenge I face until the end. Athena, the goddess of intelligence, handicraft and wisdom exemplifies my quieter, more reserved side. I often am quiet because I do not believe that something needs to always be said. There is time for thought and time for speech, and discerning this is part of being wise. Well thought out statements are formed in the quiet, which shows intelligence. Finally, I am creative; I have a vision for nearly everything, I know what the end product should look like. My role then would fall between elaborator and coordinator. I make sure everyone is on board and knows their tasks, while also elaborating on ideas and thoughts to form a vision that the whole group can comply with.

Blog Post 2: Post Practice Exam

After taking my first AP Literature practice exam, I noticed that I had several strengths, as well as weaknesses. I believe that because I took AP Composition last year, I was able to pace myself extremely well in regards to time. I also found that I did much better with the short poetry pieces. I was able to interpret them well, and quickly. I only missed a few questions that pertained to those passages, and they were simply because I just hadn't learned that particular material yet; they were gaps in my knowledge that can easily be fixed.

My biggest weakness was the longer pieces that we had to read. It was harder to understand because they weren't as to the point, so I zoned out on details I shouldn't have. I need to get better at annotating as I read, so that I am forced to pay attention to the little details that the questions are asked about.  Most of the questions I missed were in these sections for that reason. I thought it might be because I wasn't interested in the material, but as I think about it, it was probably just the length. However whether it be the length or material, I will be faced with both when it comes time to take the actual test.

My plan for improvement is really simple. For the shorter pieces, I just need to pay attention in class in order to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. I also think a simple review  of concepts I learned in AP Comp, such as the literary terms and how to annotate. As for the longer pieces, the same few reviews will be beneficial. On top of that, however, I do need to pay more attention to the text while I read. I've found that I zone out quickly when it comes to reading the longer passages because they may not interested. If I annotate as I go, I would be forced to stay engaged in the text while also possibly answering some of the questions in my notes.

This goal seems realistic and attainable to me, as for the time frame, I think that annotations can be improved right away. The more I learn this trimester about the various types of literature, the better I will become at the questions that pertain to that. I feel like all of my weaknesses can all be improved quickly and with simple measures. I really do think AP Comp helped give me an advantage in regards to test taking. It's simply new material that I have yet to learn that has been tripping me up.

Blog Post 1: Design Purpose

I designed my blog the way it is for two specific reasons. The first of which is that it is a reflection of me and my personality. I am whimsical, as designated by my color choice, and also sophisticated or mature, shown through my font choice. The fonts I chose work with the layout and colors to allude to the girlish personality traits, while also giving me the opportunity to show that I am serious in my thoughts. I chose to only keep my title an ornate font because it is what will initially draw readers into my blog, only to be followed by a simpler font that will not distract the reader from what I have written. “When user are surfing the web, they spend less than 45 seconds on each page. During this time, they decide whether to look to further into the website or move on.” (Subburamu) This decision is largely effected by font choices, which is why I found it crucial to use a font that would not be hard to read.

As for my color choice, I mentioned it was to reflect my girly nature. Beyond that, however, pink has been proven to be a ‘nurturing and physically soothing ‘(Wright). I want to give off an easy going and calm air with my blog, so that the reader can feel invited in and also calm while they read. There are also orange undertones in the design that ‘focuses our minds’ (Wright), while and also is a color that is associated with happiness and fun. The two colors work together to keep the mind stimulated and focused, without being overpowering and distracting.
